If you are building a kit from scratch, start with the helmet and gloves and add the rest as you drive more.

Caring for your gear

Wash suits according to the label, usually at a low temperature with a mild detergent and without fabric softener, and let them dry in the shade. Gloves and shoes should be aired after every session so they dry out, and stored away from direct sunlight. Check seams, closures and soles regularly and replace equipment that is worn, since worn gear protects less and gives less grip.
