KOMET K2H Hard Front Tyre 10×4.60-5
The KOMET K2H is a hard-compound kart tyre; this is the front tyre in size 10×4.60-5. It is designed for durability and stable performance over many laps, used in series and on karts where long tyre life matters.
Compound and intended use
Kart tyres are made in different compounds for different jobs. Hard and extra-hard rental compounds are built for long life on fleets that run all day, with predictable grip and slow wear. Softer racing compounds warm up faster and give more grip over a single lap, but they wear faster and lose performance after a number of heat cycles. Choose the compound according to how the kart is used: a rental or leisure kart needs durability, a race kart needs grip within the rules of its championship.
Sizes and rim fitment
The common 5-inch kart sizes are 10×4.50-5 for the front and 11×7.10-5 for the rear, sometimes written 4.5/10.0-5 and 7.1/11.0-5. The first number is the overall diameter in inches, the second the width and the last the rim diameter. Check the width of your rims before ordering: front tyres usually fit 120-130 mm rims and rear tyres 180-212 mm rims. Mixing different compounds on the same kart changes the balance, so front and rear should always be of the same type.
Pressure, mounting and storage
Tyre pressure has a big effect on grip and wear. Rental karts usually run higher pressures for durability, while racing tyres are adjusted to the track temperature and conditions. Mount the tyres with a suitable lubricant, respect the direction of rotation where marked, and check the bead seats evenly on the rim. Store spare tyres away from sunlight, heat and ozone sources such as electric motors, ideally in a cool, dark place. Check regularly for cuts, flat spots and uneven wear, which often point to alignment problems.
Tyres for rental fleets
At a rental track the tyres cover hundreds of laps every week, so cost per lap matters more than the last tenth of a second. Long-life compounds keep lap times consistent across the fleet and reduce downtime for tyre changes. Rotating tyres between karts and replacing them in matched sets keeps the fleet balanced, so that customers get the same feeling whichever kart they drive. Ask us about volume pricing if you run a fleet.
Inspection and maintenance
Rental karts take impacts from barriers, kerbs and other karts every day. A regular inspection routine catches problems before they become dangerous: look for bent components, cracks around welds, worn bushes and loose fasteners. Replace damaged parts rather than straightening them, because bent steel loses strength. After any repair, check the alignment and make sure all fasteners are tightened to the correct torque and secured with lock nuts or thread locker where required.
Frequently asked questions
Which tyre goes on the front and which on the rear?
The narrower 10×4.50-5 (4.5/10.0-5) size is the front tyre and the wider 11×7.10-5 (7.1/11.0-5) is the rear. Always use the same compound front and rear.
Can I mix tyre brands?
It is best not to. Different brands and compounds have different grip, which upsets the balance of the kart.
