Lamicall BP10 Phone Mount with Mirror Bracket
The Lamicall BP10 phone mount attaches to the mirror stem of a motorcycle.
Phone mounts and vibration
Apple has advised that exposure to high-amplitude vibrations in certain frequency ranges, such as those generated by high-power motorcycle engines, may affect the optical image stabilisation and autofocus of iPhone cameras, and recommends a vibration-dampening mount. Mounts with a vibration dampener absorb much of this vibration before it reaches the phone. Mount the phone where you can see it at a glance without hiding the instruments, and make sure it is held firmly.
Universal or model-specific holders
Universal holders grip phones of many sizes with adjustable arms or a spring clamp, so they keep working when you change phone. Quick-release systems with a dedicated case lock the phone in place with one click and are faster to remove when you park. Whichever you choose, check the range of phone sizes the holder accepts, measured with the phone case on, and make sure the clamp holds the phone without covering buttons or the camera.
Choosing the mounting position
Phone mounts attach to the handlebar, the mirror stem or the steering stem depending on the motorcycle. The best position is where you can see the screen with a quick glance without lowering your eyes too much and without hiding the instruments. Check the handlebar diameter or mirror thread before ordering and tighten the mount firmly.
Charging and weather
Navigation drains the phone battery quickly, so a USB charger connected correctly to the motorcycle’s electrical system is useful on long rides. Waterproof covers protect the phone in rain, and in strong sun phones can overheat and dim the screen, so a sun shade helps.
Riding with navigation
Set your route before you leave and use voice guidance through a helmet intercom, so you only need to glance at the screen. Avoid interacting with the phone while riding; stop safely if you need to change something. A firmly mounted phone in the right position makes navigation less distracting and safer.
Helmet intercoms
A Bluetooth intercom connects the rider to the phone for navigation, calls and music, and to a passenger or other riders. Units clip or stick to the helmet shell, with speakers placed in the ear pockets under the liner. Position the speakers exactly at ear level for clear sound at low volume, and keep the volume moderate so you can still hear the traffic. Make adjustments before riding or with voice commands.
Lithium batteries and jump starters
Lithium powersports batteries are much lighter than lead-acid batteries and hold their charge well during storage, but they need a charger suitable for lithium. Choose a battery whose dimensions, terminal layout and cold cranking amps match the requirements of your motorcycle. A portable lithium jump starter lets you start a vehicle with a flat battery without another vehicle, and many models also charge phones via USB.
